UNU-WIDER SOUTHMOD Country Report: ZANMOD v1.1, 2019–2023

Abstract

This report documents ZANMOD, the SOUTHMOD model developed for Zanzibar. This work was carried out by staff at Zanzibar University, the Second Vice President’s Office in Zanzibar, the University of Dar es Salaam, and the University of Dodoma, in collaboration with UNU-WIDER and SASPRI. The results presented in this report are derived using ZANMOD version 1.1, which is part of the SOUTHMOD bundle (SOUTHMOD_A2.0) and runs on EUROMOD software.

The report describes the different tax-benefit policies in place, how the microsimulation model picks up these different provisions, and the database on which the model runs. It concludes with a validation of results against external data sources for Zanzibar.

The ZANMOD model and its documentation in this country report has been prepared within the UNU-WIDER project SOUTHMOD—simulating tax and benefit policies for development (Phase 3), which is part of the Domestic Revenue Mobilization programme Phase II. For further information on access to the model, see the ZANMOD page.
