New EUROMOD release 2024Q3 including consumption taxes

A new beta version of EUROMOD has been released! As a result of a major project involving partner institutions, EUROMOD national teams and the JRC, this new package (2024Q3) includes the simulation of consumption taxes (VAT and excises) for the 27 EU Member States for the most recent years. Related FAQ and quick guide have been added here.

For this purpose, new datasets have been created by matching the standard EU-SILC datasets with HBS data. Please be aware that in order to get access to these datasets you may need to amend your EUROMOD-related RPP with Eurostat if it doesn't foresee the use of HBS. More information here.

What's new?

Compared to the previous release (I6.0+), this one includes the following updates/changes:

POLICIES AND FUNCTIONALITIES

  • New 2024 policy systems for all countries
  • New uprating indices and exchange rates for 2024, and updates/corrections for previous years
  • Inclusion of consumption taxes (VAT and excises) for all countries for years 2010 (2012 for HR) and 2019-2024
  • Addition of a new global extension: Benefit Calibration Adjustment (BCA)
  • Redesign and harmonisation of adjustments of social assistance benefits for all countries
  • Bug fixes and improvements in all country models

DATA

  • New datasets (149) containing information on income (from SILC) and expenditure shares (matched from HBS)
  • New country-specific training data for all countries, including Simpleland
  • New 2022 SILC-only input data for BG and FI

SOFTWARE

  • Core software
    • Greatly improved executable efficiency, both in terms of speed and memory consumption
    • Fixed a rounding bug in comparison of nearly equal or nearly zero numbers (can slightly change model results)
    • New constant $exchangeRate and added tooltip support for constants on External Statistics and Consumption Taxes 
    • Added links to all help pages for functions, between descriptions and summary of parameters

      • The Statistics Presenter templates now also include information on consumption taxes when they are available in the analysed output
      • In-depth default analysis level set to individual in tables 1.x
